Bangladesh spin bowlers Mahmudullah Riyad and Sakib al Hasan shared eight wickets in the second innings to dismiss West Indies for 181 runs with just over 40 minutes of play left.
Sweets were distributed at the Bangladesh Cricket Board headquarters at Mirpur on Tuesday and the Board president, Lieutenant General Sina Ibn Jamali, congratulated the team.
‘This is the momentous occasion for Bangladesh cricket and I hope this win will act as a catalyst for many more triumphs,’ Jamali told skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza in a message.
‘The board is extremely proud of the team’s remarkable efforts and our best wishes are always with you,’ said Jamali, who is now in Mumbai to attend the logo unveiling ceremony of World Cup 2011.
Grameenphone, the official sponsor of Tigers since 2003, has congratulated the players of the Bangladesh national cricket team, the BCB for the team’s winning performance.
‘The win against the West Indies marks the Bangladesh cricket team’s first Test win on international soil,’ said the leading cellular phone operator in a statement.
The Bangladesh Football Federation also hailed the team and hoped that they would return home clinching the series.
‘I am hopeful that this win will inspire the youth cricketers much to play attractive cricket in future,’ said BFF president Kazi Salahuddin.
