Ace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan made his Big Bash League debut in style yesterday as he smacked a 30-ball
46 with the bat and then finished with economical figures of 2 for 21 in his four overs.
His emphatic performance however, failed to lead his side — the Adelaide Strikers — to a win as they went down by six wickets to the Sydney Sixers.
Shakib came to the crease at number five in the eighth over of the innings with his side struggling at 32 for 4 and with Nathan Reardon, he shared an 80-run stand, which came off 50 balls, and helped the Strikers recuperate. He smacked three boundaries and twice cleared the ropes with ease during his stay. The Strikers eventually posted 149 for 7 in their 20 overs.
The highest scorer in his side with the bat, Shakib showed a similar prowess with the ball as he was the most successful bowler too. He took the wickets at crucial times and helped the Strikers stay in the game for most parts of the innings. He got the wickets of Michael Lump and Australian national player Moises Henriques.
